Orlagh graduated from Guy’s Hospital in London. She
was attracted to the profession having played badminton for Ireland. Upon
qualifying she worked with babies and children in Crumlin Hospital doing
chest physio.
She did her 2 years basic training in a large teaching hospital on the South
side of Chicago called Michael Reese Hospital. It was here that she was
introduced to the techniques of Myofascial Release and became proficient
in rehabing patients from gun shot wounds amongst other things.
She then moved to Inglewood in California to take up a senior Orthopaedic
post at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital. It was in California where she
gained experience in strength and conditioning exercises, gym rehab. and
core strengthening. Included in the list of clients that she had was Andre
Young aka Dr. Dre.
Orlagh then went on to become a partner in a home health agency in Burbank
Ca., called Pacific Coast Healthcare. This proved to be invaluable experience
for her, treating a wide range of conditions in the patient’s home.
Requiring the physiotherapist to think on her feet and to be creative with
her treatment plan, there wasn’t much that Orlagh didn’t see
or treat from this opportunity. Seeing a wide variety for patients from
Compton, Watts to Malibu and everything in between.
At this time Orlagh became interested in Homeopathic Medicine and received
a diploma in same from Santa Monica College and attended courses in Naturopathic
Medicine in Portland, Oregan.
Orlagh returned to Ireland to pursue her first love, that is sport and received
a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from UCD. Her thesis was on isokinetic
testing of the shoulder muscles in badminton players. Since returning she
has pursued courses in dry needling (Travell & Simons) and is a huge
advocate of same getting super results from her patients.
She set up in Private practise 7 years ago and was privileged to be involved
and to have treated so many wonderful clients.
She was the physiotherapist on set of the Hollywood movie “King Arthur”,
working with the likes of Clive Owen and Ray Winstone. She also attended
the World Canoe Slalom championships and has worked with Eoin Rheinisch.
She is also the Dublin based physiotherapist to the Irish Boxing team and
has treated Kenny Egan, Katie Taylor, Darren Sutheralnd, Paddy Barne, John
Joe Nevin, Andy Lee. She had the privilege of being the physio with Andy
Lee whilst he was at the Olympic training camp in France preparing for Athens.
She has currently completed 2 years of a 3 year diploma in Chinese Medicine
and Acupuncture under the expert tutelage of Dr. Vincent Carroll.
Above all of this, Orlagh’s greatest achievement is her little boy
James Robert, the little miracle she was told she could never have!
So, medical science doesn’t get it right all the time, we are human
we do make mistakes but we strive to our best each day for each patient.
